Wellness and recovery—and, as we all know, the entire health niche—are quite competitive. But if you implement the right SEO strategy and build authority, you can rank and get business.

On July 1, 2024, I had the opportunity to work on this UK-based eCommerce brand (Shopify).

Below are the stats before I started working on the website:

As you can see, there were only 25 keywords in SERPs then.

However, after working for about 4 months, we now have over a thousand (1K+) keywords (keep reading 🤫).

What We Did During These 4 Months?

I won’t share the results first, as most people do.

Let me first share the strategy so that if you want to leave, you can after getting the knowledge.

1. Competitor Analysis

Ok, starting with the analysis.

The client shared his 3 to 4 competitors, and I did my analysis as well. Their main competitor has been in this business since 2020 and has built a high reputation.

Folks in the community also recommend their products. 😏

The best part is that we already had the keywords ready and had just analyzed the competitors and found some gaps. Most of them had:

  • No proper keyword optimization on the homepage and product pages
  • Less number of blogs (traffic generators, OFC) and not optimized

So, the first gap we needed to fill to compete was to optimize our product pages and important pages and add high-quality, SEO-optimized blogs.

2. Keyword Research

After niche research, keyword research is what contribute the most to ranking.

Currently, the brand sells only 3 productsI started with keyword research for each, first to optimize the product pages.

After that, I started finding long-tail keywords to write blogs on.

For some keywords, we ranked in the top 10 even after 2 to 5 days (the power of keyword research).

3. Content & Copywriting

First, I updated the website’s existing copy and used the keywords I researched for each page.

Besides product pages, I also added copy and optimized the collection pages.

Next, I wrote high-quality blogs with links to our product pages (I will explain the linking part later).

Numbers – 5 to 6 blogs per month with a 5-day gap.

4. Internal & External Linking

For internal linking, I have a personal strategy. From the product pages, I link to the homepage first and then the particular category.

Regarding external linking, I don’t link to any other website from the homepage, collection pages, and product pages.

However, I link to several websites from the blog posts.

As this was a wellness and recovery brand, I had to link to some big health websites and research papers for reference.

5. Website/Domain Authority

DA is the most important thing—it plays a major role in website ranking.

When I took charge of the website, its domain authority, according to Semrush, was 2.

I started with creating profile backlinks and created 40 in the first month.

For the next 2 months, I created 100 to 150 backlinks, different each month. These include Web 2.0, forum backlinks, social bookmarking, article submission, guest posting, etc.

Note: The client got a niche-relevant backlink from a big website after 2 months (for Free).

In 4 months, the authority score increased to 17 (Semrush).

6. Social Media – Yeah!

Well, the client had a great social media presence. And you know what? I got this client from social media. 😍

After 40 to 50 days, we created Reddit and Quora accounts and started answering queries on Reddit.

Here Is What We Achieved!

Right now, we are ranking first for 3 to 5 blogs, and about 8 blogs are in the top 10

One of our products ranks 3rd, and one ranks 4th. One product (main) was initially 8th and 11th for different keywords but is not in the top 20 now—it needs more work!

The best part is that two of these products are appearing in the product recommendations (via Google Merchant Center).

Before starting work on this website, it was getting 50 clicks per month.

Last month, October 2024, we hit 800+ clicks a month.

Nov 3, 2024, we reached 1.78K Total Clicks and 117K Impressions (see GSC stats below) and we achieved these results, all in just 4 months. 🥰
